Context

Noise is a magazine dedicated to mental health topics within the creative industry. Founded by Floriane Rousselot, the platform features interviews with freelancers, founders, and designers at all levels, addressing critical subjects such as financial management, work-life balance, and imposter syndrome. The mission is to provide a supportive space and reassure creatives that they're not alone in facing these challenges.

mission

The brief required designing and developing a blog that honored Noise's distinctive visual identity: a carefully curated color palette featuring radial gradients tailored to each major topic. Given the magazine's audience of creatives, the design needed to be experimental and intentional, with a crucial constraint: zero imagery. All emotion and narrative had to be conveyed solely through typography (Floriane's specialty) and strategic use of color.

solution

I designed a typography-driven experience where radial gradients appear on hover like subtle auras around articles, avoiding visual clutter. Each article is represented by a unique typographic treatment and color palette reflecting its subject matter. Slight perspective effects on blog cards and resources reference print design conventions, with a legend at the bottom of ressources’ page. The layout invites readers to slow down and truly engage: large, legible typography paired with vibrant color blocks creates joy and clarity.  Notably, the footer is intentionally hidden within articles to maintain focus where it matters most. Free from pop-ups and distractions, the blog delivers mental health resources while honoring the very wellbeing it discusses.

Impact

The release of 6 interviews with prominent figures in design opened up a broader dialogue around mental health in the creative field, shining a light on the specific pressures faced by independent practitioners.
